My name is Ansel LaPier and I am a senior at Central Valley High School in Spokane Valley, Washington. I have a passion for science, engineering, environmental sustainability and protection, running, weight lifting, and photography.
I have worked as a Research Assistant and Eastern Washington University on project related to optimizing function for patients recovering from open heart surgery. I also was an intern at the Pacific Northwest National Lab researching the feasibility of using salinity gradient energy to power costal sensors.
I also co-founded a charity, Through the Eyes of a Child Photography, that sells photography inspired products to raise money for Shriners Hospitals for Children. Check out my charity's website at:

I loved all the STEM-related excitement and camaraderie. Until then, research had been a mostly solitary venture for me, and to be surrounded by hundreds of "nerdy" students like myself was a bit surreal. Check out this video clip of the event.
Fun Fact: I won a national film competition that included elementary, middle, and high school students when I was in second grade using claymation called
The Quest. The Reflections competition theme that year was "Diversity means..."
